Volunteering

I volunteered at Arnhem Student Point (ASP) for 2 years. This is an organisation  welcoming all Higher Education students in the city of Arnhem. It aims to be a cosy place where the students can be themselves, be inspired, learn and grow, and feel at home even miles away from their real home.

I loved conducing to my peers' development and seeing them happy, connecting with each other and thriving. I have helped mainly for their Social Media pages, initiating and organising student events. Here are some of the things I did:

Non-Violent Communication Workshop

I have initiated and held a Non-Violent Communication Workshop to show and allow students to practise communication techniques, which can improve their life tremendously.

"What is NVC?" you may ask.

 It empowers people to express their feelings and needs in a such a way that they are better understood by the other party. Thus their needs actually can be satisfied, instead of misunderstood or completely neglected. It allows for empathetically connecting with the others, so that a conversation doesn't end up in a fight, but rather in fulfilled requests and needs.

02

Mindful Eating Workshop

We all spend 1583days, or 4 years and a half eating and enjoying conversations around the table.

However, do we know how to eat properly, so that we can really feel well after that?

So that we don't overeat, but cherish and find delight in each small bite!

I learned some vital principles and shared it with the students in Arnhem via this workshop.

"A Moment of Inspiration"

I have initiated and created post series called "A Moment of Inspiration". They are all about giving advice or suggestion to students regarding topics of their interest. Thus, helping them think consciously, out of the box, or simply help them recharge.

The latter might be connected to health, but also to student life, caring of themselves, cool events, and more, so they can make the best out of their student lives.
For example:

-> How to improve your sleep?

-> Fixed vs. Growth Mindset

-> How to enhance your Self-care?

-> How to get from 'Holiday' to 'Work' Mode

-> How to trigger happiness?

-> How to get things done when you don't really feel like it?

-> 7 Dutch Summer Festivals

-> 8 must-visit swimming spots in the Netherlands

Post series: "What Have You Been Up To?"

These are posted every other week and they aim to:
1) let the others know what the community is up to and thus stay close to each other, even with busy schedules
2) share daily life activities and adventures, and therefore give ideas or inspiration to others for things they might want to try out, but have never considered before

Reels: The week of..."

In one moment, we had to replace the aforementioned posts. I understood that Reels are gaining more popularity and bigger reach.

So, as a substitute, I suggested that we do Reels "The week of...". In them we present via images and text description weekly moments of one of the ASP community members, arranged on the background of music /often choice of the featured student on the Reel-thus, showing their own character/.

As such, people will get to know the members/or keep up with a friend/, but also learn new things from each other, or get inspired to include a new activity in their week as well.

Questions & Answers

During Covid, a lot of people didn't keep in touch physically. To create a space for community, sharing and learning online stories called "You answered" were created.

There were a variety of questions regarding life, choices, experiences, memories, and so on:

-> What are you grateful for today?

-> What was the last movie/book which inspired you?

-> What does freedom mean to you?

-> What's one thing you wish you knew how to do?

-> What do you think is interesting about your culture?

-> What works  the best for you when you want to recharge  during holidays?

-> How did you move your body this week?

-> What is your best memory of January?

Events announcement

At some moment, I took over the responsibility to create the posts with even announcements. I created mainly their design via Canva, and sometimes also their copy. In left, there are some examples.

"Why not go to...?" Post Series

As a student organization, we wanted to inspire all Arnhem students to diverse their life, and enrich themselves by expanding the locations they've been to. That is why, I initiated Post Series, with a title of 2 sentence. The main one being: "Why not go to...?". In this way, people can visit historical places (i.e. "John Frost Bridge"), places to eat and relax (i.e. "Libertas" cafe), or social entrepreneurship-based places (i.e. "Brownies & downieS" (see below). Thus, also help people in need as well.
